About the Founder

Lauren Mishra, PhD, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and Enrolled Agent

Lauren founded Elion Financial to offer a more thoughtful and integrated approach to financial advice. After more than a decade working in financial planning and tax advisory roles at both local and national firms, she saw firsthand how many traditional advisory models are structured around scale and volume. Advisors are often responsible for a large number of households, making it difficult to give each client the level of attention and care their financial decisions deserve.

Elion was created with a different philosophy. By intentionally keeping the firm small and independent, Lauren is able to work closely with a limited number of clients and focus on careful, long-term decision-making. Her work emphasizes the integration of tax planning and financial planning—two areas that are often handled separately but are deeply connected in practice.

Lauren holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and is an IRS Enrolled Agent (EA), a federally licensed tax professional authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Although Elion Financial is a solo practice, she remains closely connected to the broader professional community through organizations such as the CFP® community, NAPFA, XY Planning Network, ZOE Financial and advisor collaboration networks, allowing her to exchange ideas with other professionals while preserving the independence that allows her to focus fully on her clients.

Elion Financial was built on the belief that financial advice should be careful, integrated, and tailored to the individual—not delivered through a one-size-fits-all process.

My Story

Lauren has worked in financial planning and tax strategy since 2014, advising clients through several advisory firms before founding Elion Financial.

I made the shift to finance after a rewarding career as a synthetic chemist, discovering new pharmaceuticals. After my husband completed his medical residency and started working as an internist, we began seeking financial advice, only to be turned away by traditional firms because our assets were just starting to grow. The more I looked into it, the more I saw an opportunity to apply my scientific background to finance. I realized that my experience teaching students and young scientists could easily translate into helping clients understand and take control of their money.

Originally from Macon and Helen, Georgia, my husband and I now call Tucson, Arizona home, where we’re raising our two kids. As a family, we love football, baseball, and tennis, as well as camping, hiking, and skiing. We’re passionate about protecting the environment and advocating for human rights, and we work to create the same kind of balance in our own lives that I encourage my clients to pursue.

My History

My first money memory was watching my parents turn a rundown go-kart track in Helen, Georgia into a thriving amusement park—and retire by 50. Their determination taught me what’s possible with the right plan.

I began my career in science, completing my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Georgia, earning an M.S. in Biophysics from the University of Virginia, followed by a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Michigan and then working in academic pharmaceutical research for nearly a decade at both the University of Michigan and the University of Arizona. But my path shifted when my husband and I—an M.D./Ph.D. couple—struggled to find financial advice that truly fit our stage of life. Advisors just wanted our assets, not our questions and that simply wasn’t good enough for us.

So I learned the system myself. In the process, I discovered that financial planning could be both analytical and strategic—and that many people were looking for exactly that kind of approach. I became a CFP® professional and Enrolled Agent and began helping others like us—HENRYs, physicians, and professionals navigating complex financial transitions.

Today, I work with clients who value clarity and action. Whether you’re launching a business, planning a big move, or approaching retirement, I thrive on solving the financial puzzles that come with change.

Why Elion

Elion Financial is named in honor of Gertrude Elion (1918–1999), a pioneering medicinal chemist and Nobel Laureate. Elion’s groundbreaking work transformed modern medicine — leading to treatments for leukemia, organ transplant rejection, and viral infections. What set her apart was not only her brilliance, but her ability to bring creativity, rigor, and compassion together in solving complex problems that touched millions of lives.

“My own career began in the world of medicinal chemistry, where I was inspired by the curiosity and persistence of scientists like Elion. Over time, I felt called to bring that same spirit of discovery and problem-solving into personal finance. Naming this firm after her bridges my past life in science with my current life in financial planning — honoring a legacy of innovation and care, while reflecting my commitment to helping clients tackle complex challenges with clarity, creativity, and purpose.”
